OFFSHORE CONTAINER
“Offshore container is portable unit, specially designed for repeated use in the transport of goods or equipment to, from or between fixed and/or floating offshore installations and ships” as defined by IMO(international Maritime Organization). There are various sizes offshore containers (mini size, 8ft, 10ft, 15ft, 20ft, 22ft) for diverse purposes( laboratory, office, café, storing equipment, food material warehouse, transportation of cargo and so on.) evolved from the common intermodal or ISO shipping container. Currently acceptable classification societies include: Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Lloyds Register(LR) and Bureau Veritas (BV). Offshore containers should be fitted with special pad eyes, suitable for the attachment of purpose-built slings connected with shackles. The requirement for classification society certification includes the sling set.
